Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.  ~Charles W. Eliot

This wall of books looks very similar to the one that is in my future house... except mine takes up every wall, and isn't blue.

Diy Pinwheels

I love these pinwheels! I found this tutorial on Evies blog... enjoy!
What you need: 8.5 x 11 paper, hot glue gun, double sided transparent tape, cardboard from cereal box
Step 1: You’ll need 8 sheets of 8.5 x 11 paper to make a large pinwheel. Start by taking the paper (portrait, not landscape orientation) and accordion folding it, making the folds about 1 inch wide. (To speed up this process, you can fold two at a time.)
Step 2: After folding all 8 sheets, you’ll want to take them one by one and cut a round edge on one of the sides. Or you can skip this step, but I love mine looking a little bit curvier.
Step 3: Next start taping the folded pieces of paper together using your double sided tape.
Step 4: Continue step 3 until you have all 8 pieces taped together creating one long strip of folded paper.
Step 5: Fan out the strip in a round shape creating a circle and close it up using double sided tape.
Step 6: Cut out a circle of cardboard from a used cereal box and hot glue to the back of your pinwheel. This will give it stability and then you can punch a hole and hang it or press a thumb tack in to  stick it on the wall.

diy yarn wrapped monograms

Step 1: Print out your monogram using a rounded font in your desired size. Rounded corners make it easier to work around.
Step 2: Cut out the letter and trace onto cardboard. I used a Cheerio box!
Step 3: Wrap away!  I also recommend a thick yarn, which would make your job a lot easier and faster. I probably wrapped the whole letter at least 3 times with mine to get everything covered and nice and thick.
Step 4: A bajillion wraps later, and you’re done! Hot glue the ends down in the back of the letter.

Found this off of Evies blog... maybe ill have to add it to the branch idea over my  fireplace... cute!!!

project thrane home

5349116680_0731313216_o

So... Im re-doing the space above my fireplace... we have vaulted ceilings so im trying to think of an interesting, fun way to utilize the wall space. I have a branch in Marley's room above her crib in her nursury with birds and woodland creatures on it, and i was thinking of doing a similar idea as above except instead of hanging lights i'm thinking ill hang interesting vintage frames with cute fabric and pictures etc. in an overlapping affect like this one:

Maybe ill include some of the skeleton keys i got for Christmas and a few other cute things... I'm excited to start the creative process... We'll see how it ends up!

Filling that space.

Great way to add color to an office or work space.

Im taking a big mirror from my bedroom for my outdoor salon... which will leave a huge empty space on the wall where my desk is... i thought this was a cute idea to add some color, pattern, and keep all your documents and office stuff organized.
Great filing system... and cute to boot.

wedge house by modern playhouse
furniture for your modern play house

I used to love playing in cardboard box houses... pretending like i was the boxcar children... and i think its because it was just a clean slate that i could make into whatever i wanted... well i think this simplistic wooden playhouse looks like it over the same clean slate. It would be fun to personalise with cute curtains your kids can pick out and fun things to hang on the wall. Home sweet home!

   deluxe art table for kids

Call me a dreamer, but someday i want an art room. I plan to tear out all the carpet and as a family go to town painting pictures on the floors and walls (makes for an indestructable room). Ill have my sewing stuff and the kids will have cute art tables and easles! someday... along with my library (overstuffed couches and ceiling to floor books)... music room... etc haha.

Contentment

"Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not, remember that what you now have was once among the things you hoped for." -Epicurus

Its crazy how in a world of so much change, it still feels like some things never do. It sometimes seems like everything in life spins in orbit with the earth. Today's life-lessons and revelations will be the same ones you re-learn in a few years.. months.. or days. God is a God of second chances, but when it comes to the 12 billion and sixth chance... doesnt it start getting a little old? How is he not exhausted and how have we STILL not learned? Human nature is the one thing that binds us to the world. Its power overcomes  us with a natural, instinctual pull. The one thing we are called to fight against is the very thing that we are.

Contentment is my constant struggle. When i finally feel like I can add it to my tool belt of "understood and mastered" conflicts, it falls right through and smashes me again. It isn't that i dont see how incredibly blessed  i am, but i think thats the sneaky part about contentment... it says"look you have all of these things, now for the icing on the cake you need this!" or "Hey look that grass is really green and soft over there you should just take a square of it and add it to your lawn" Lies. I dont need more icing and i dont need "greener" grass.
There will always be things that i dont have, places that i will never see, the ultimate body figure that i will never achieve... but those fixations only obstruct my view of all the amazing things that i do have, and the things that are in store for me in heaven.

True contentment may never come. Maybe what my heart longs for cant be found on this earth... my heart strings are tied to heaven and the pull is strong. But in the mean time, God has given me an amazing life... a better husband then i ever dreamed of, such and amazing daughter, a cute little house, and the most amazing, loving, and accepting family and friends. This is the day that the Lord has made and i will be glad and rejoice in it. Thank you God for chosing and adopting me into your family!!

Marley and Baby

Ive been teaching Marley to take care of her baby doll.. and she is an absolute natural! She rocks it, pats it, sings to it, puts it to sleep... haha its adorable. Now i just have to start on the vintage suitcase bed and start making some little clothes baby!

Tea!!

Alright... so i Got some new delicious teas because of my new "cut down of the coffee" rule, and i wanted to share a few of them with you and also some tea 101 that ive learned from my 6 years of working at a coffee shop.. Enjoy!!

London Fog Tea Latte Recipe
London Fog Latte  is a combination of Earl Grey, steamed milk and vanilla syrup. My sister Richelle reminded me of the deliciousness that are "tea lattes!!" so exciting because i can still put my espresso to good use adn still get a little punch of caffeine in the mornings!! (instead of vanilla i use vanilla soy because im lactose intolerant.. or you can just add sugar or leave it plain)

Relax tea
Trader Joe’s Relax Organic Tea contains no caffeine and is made with a blend of herbs designed to calm and help you to unwind. These herbs include fennel seed, licorice, rooibos, anise, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, peppermint and strawberry leaf. It has a medium body and a great, smooth flavor. So nice before bed!

The combination of coconut and chai tea on a black tea background in Zhena’s Gypsy Coconut Chai is absolutely brilliant... and not just because its bold and caffeinated :) The organic, fair trade tea has a rich and spicy flavor to it, with notes of ginger and cardamom. The coconut flavor is subtle, but clear, and really comes through if you decide to sweeten the tea and not just drink it black.

Harney & Sons Premium Japanese Sencha Tea Bags 20ct
Green Tea is the best kind of tea for you. It is rich in powerful antioxidants – so powerful that they can even outdo those found in Vitamin C 10 times – which has a huge impact on your health, both on the inner and outer organs of your body. Skin benefits from this especially, as skin cells can interact with antioxidants in many ways, and use them to recover quicker.

Tea 101:
The more processing tea leaves undergo, the darker they will turn. (Green tea and white tea are the least processed tea and steamed quickly. Black and oolong teas are partially dried, crushed and fermented)

You want to steep (brew) your tea  for 3-5 minutes max... any more or less causes bitterness, and dont squeeze your tea bags when you take them out!! just remove them and drink.

Little tips and tricks: Green and White teas are very fragile, steep them for 2 minutes and not in scorching hot temperatures because it can cause the tea leaves to burn and lose flavor.

My "LOSE 15 POUNDS OR ELSE" plan

Its been a long streak of amazing recipes at the Thrane household...Chicken Courdon Bleu, Parmisan Garlic Butter Shrimp, Almond Crusted Maui Chicken, Mexican Casserole,  an amazing steak recipe and so many others  planned for this week!! Why you ask?? Because I am putting a late New Years Resolution into affect:

 "DONT EAT OUT SO MUCH!"

my husband is amazing and likes to spoil me with fun dates almost every night and most seem to include trying new restaurants, getting ice cream, candy, coffee, late night popcorn and beer etc.. But my goal is to lose 15 pounds in 5 months which includes excercise and a new "Dont eat out unless you have to" rule. And no more soda... and cut down on the coffee.

SOOO... ive been having a lot of fun trying new things i didnt even know i could cook with (eggplant... banana squash etc) and its been fun!  Ill post some recipes soon!

diy baby pacifier clips

These Pacifier clips keep your litte ones pacifiers from getting lost when they decide to spit them out... they make for a cute handmade baby shower gift also!
You'll need ribbon, suspender clips (available at fabric stores), fray check (optional) and velcro.

1. Cut a 24" length of ribbon. (This ribbon is 7/8" wide.)

2. Apply Fray Check to each end to prevent unraveling.

3. Fold the ribbon in half, leaving a little extra at one end to fold over the other unfinished end to hide it.

4. Stitch around the edges of the doubled ribbon , trying desperately not to run off the edge. Squeaking "Eeek!" helps a little when you get close. Just a tip.

5. Sew velcro pieces onto the folded end about 2" apart.

6. Thread the opposite end through a suspender clip and sew it down.

"I’m here. I love you. I don’t care if you need to stay up crying all night long, I will stay with you. There’s nothing you can ever do to lose my love. I will protect you until you die, and after your death I will still protect you. I am stronger than Depression and I am braver than Loneliness and nothing will ever exhaust me."

I am going looking for cute vintage luggage at thriftstores and making this ASAP!!

Here's a similar idea i found that a girl made for her dog... except i want to make it so marleys baby can have a bed on top for her baby and the bed will lift up and the doll and her clothes can be under it! Cute!
